For Students

Why get involved? Joining Biomedical Sciences and Environmental Health Sciences Graduate Student Organization (BE-GSO) is a great way to broaden your professional and social life.

Professional The BE-GSO acts as an information group, a medium for academic discourse, personal growth, leadership development, and community service. Events such as, visiting lecture series and career development days are geared to stimulate interest in research and various science professions. You’ll gain specialized and practical skills as you prepare for the academic job market and opportunities to network with notable scientists and advisers.

Social The BE-GSO is also vested in promoting unity among School of Public Health (SPH) departments and lasting friendships. Many of the activities, such as Happy Hour and sports events are focused on providing students avenues to relax and have fun.

Membership Membership in the GSO shall consist of all graduate students who are enrolled at the State University of New York at Albany in the Biomedical Science or Environmental Health Science departments. Any member of the GSO is eligible to be a member of the executive board, and may serve on any GSO committee. All members of the GSO are eligible to vote in officer elections, referenda, and other organization-wide ballots. All members of the GSO vote equally.

Voting is currently implemented through My Involvement. Signing up for My Involvement is fast, easy and free - it uses your standard UAlbany net ID and password. Once registered, you can search GSOs for Biomedical Sciences/Environmental Health Sciences GSO.

Commitment The BE-GSO meets once a month for discussion of campus activities, problems and improvements. Members are elected to the executive board annually. Students are encouraged to participate in both the BE-GSO and the activities it sponsors.
